THE DOVES Best of 2008

Pour moi ce groupe est une sorte de COLDPLAY avec une ambition et une maturité qui sort de l'ordinaire. Ce 'best of' est excellent pour découvrir leur univers.
C'est un mélange de PINK FLOYD et de ELBOW, un peu de rock arty, et beaucoup de poêsie. Ils n'ont pas eu le succès qu'ils auraient mérité mais ici on s'en fout: la minorité qui les aime a forcémment raison! Et puis, ils ont fait une adaptation du 'Moonchild' de KING CRIMSON, musique que l'on retrouve dans le film 'BUFFALO 66', le moment magique où la fille blonde danse seule dans le noir sous un spot blanc, avec le morceau qui n'est pas ici 'M62 Song' sur 'Last Broadcast', et ce morceau c'est une merveille, un diamant de douceur de sophistication inouie, rien que pour ce morceau, ce groupe mérite d'être dans mon petit panthéon de la musique, pas moins!

For me this band is a kind of COLDPLAY with an ambition and a maturity out of the ordinary. This ' best of' is excellent to discover their universe.
this is a mixture of Pink Floyd and ELBOW, a little arty, very very poetic. They have had no success ; but we dont care cause I like them so much: the minority which likes them is right inevitably! And then, they made an adaptation of the ' Moonchild' of KING CRIMSON, music in the film ' BUFFALO 66' , the part where the blond girl is dancing in the night with just one spotlight, with the track which is not here; M62 Song' on ' Last Broadcast' , and this trak is a wonderful beauty, a diamond of softness of amazing sophistication, only for this track they give us they have to be in my small panthéon of the my personnal taste of rock, not less!

FLEET FOXES 'fleet foxes'

Ce disque m'est arrivé à un moment où je révais à l'automne, ma saison préférée, avec les feuilles des arbres qui éclairent le paysage et le vague souvenir des nuits d'été. C’était exactement comme la semaine dernière, de la neige au printemps, en complet décalage, les Fleet Foxes auraient pu nous faire croire que l’on avait de nouveau envie de voir la buée sortir de nos bouches.
La chanson s’appelait ’White Winter Hymnal’, un bouquet d’harmonies, une voix, puis quatre, une petite cymbale, une guitare, et un déboulé. Lancée du haut de la colline on la regarde descendre, sauter, rebondir, grossir, chuter sur un rocher et exploser en flocons!
Ils viennent de SEATTLE mais font une espèce de folk anglais très seventies!
C'est frais et un peu déconcertant mais vraiment très fort pour les harmonies vocales.

This cd arrives to me at one moment when I dreamt about the autumn, my preferred season, with the leaves of the trees which light the landscape and the souvenir of the hot summer nights. It was exactly like last week, the snow in spring, in our crazy weather with no respect for the season we have learnt at school, Fleet Foxes could have made us believe that one again wanted to see mist leaving our mouths. A song called 'White Winter Hymnal', a bouquet of harmony, a voice, then four, a small cymbal, a guita. Launched top of the hill one looks at it going down, jumping, rebounding, growing bigger, falling on a rock and exploding in flakes! They come from SEATTLE but make a special English folk, very seventiesThis is fresh and a little disconcerting but really and extremely good for the vocal harmonies.

KING CRIMSON Starless and bible black

Le groupe, en 1974, dénude à l’extrême sa musique , puisant son inspiration chez les minimalistes américains : Terry Riley, Philipp Glass ou Steve Reich. Se faisant, il préfigure l’évolution que connaîtra le rock au moment du punk... mais n'attire pas un large public pour autant. C'est dommage car le disque a très très bien vieilli, il est riche et passionnant. Des moments de plénitude merveilleuse et puis de tensions vraiment sortant de l'ordinaire avec par le biais des paroles un univers complexe et poêtique c'est à écouter absolumment!

The band, in 1974, strips to the extreme its music, drawing its inspiration at the American minimalists: Terry Riley, Philip Glass or Steve Reich. Being made, it precedes the evolution that will know the rock'n'roll at the time of the punk … but do not attract many people for as much.

This is a pity cause the disc by the time is always so good, it is rich and enthralling. Moments of marvellous plenitude and then of tensions really outgoing of the ordinary with by the means of the lyrics a complex and poetic universe c'est à écouter absolumment!
